My attempts to open my NEF files in Adobe Camera Raw in PSE 14 are a failure. I get a message that tells me that I must have the latest Camera Raw update installed, when I click help ---> update, I'm told that I have the latest updates installed. When I click the link in the message box it tells me that D3200 files are supported. I opened a D40 RAW file to see if I could update ACR from the ACR window, I didn't see any way of doing it.
Can anyone help me with the problem? I like using Elements (I haven't even tapped its full potential); I do not want to go to Light Room nor subscribe to the full blown cloud version of Photo Shop -- those are not options. Any help is appreciated.

What version of ACR do you have? According to the Adobe site, anything from 7.1 (which is a fairly old release) on should support the D3200, and PSE 14 ships with ACR 9.0.
thank you, I'll have to figure out which version of ACR I have. Now the all important question: How do I do that?

open PSE, click on help, then about plug-ins, then camera raw
I have ACR 9.5 installed, but it won't open the files.

No idea then. Perhaps one of the many PS/PSE experts on The Hog can assist...
Interesting. There may be something going on with ACR and bridge. I have been getting bands of color across my thumbs. By process of elimination I know that the data on my card is ok (also NEFS) because they open in iPhoto. I have spent literally hours on the phone with Adobe and Apple. They consensus seems to be some glitch as of yet unknown. It seems to be a problem trying to open images directly into Bridge as the gateway to PS. My work around is to download the files into a desktop folder and then use Adobe CC from there and things work fine. If this is more widespread I suggest that you and anyone else call Adobe tech support to let them know. I tried another Nikon as well and the problem persisted.
PS I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Didn't work for me but might for your issue.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but it still doesn't work.
I got on Adobe's bulletin board and laid out the problem. Their response was that the photos were corrupted -- not likely!
I could open in ACR with my D3100 (but I fell and trashed it, that's why I bought the D3200!) and it still opens my D3000 NEF files.
Adobe also tried to tell me the files were corrupt which they aren't. There is a glitch yet to be fixed. Try my work around -download files to a folder and then try opening from the folder, not from your card. Hope that works for you. bTW uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing for me.
