Since we have had a good dose of leafmining going on, I suspect the fly to be a Ophiomyia kwansonis. It is new to the USA in the passed decade and is of a black color. The hitch hiker, I think to be a tiny tic. Neither insect will I swear is what I have mentioned. Maybe someone who knows insects will share their expertise.
