I always use BBF, once you're used to it you'll wonder why you ever let the shutter 1/2 press do the focusing.
I like BBF - been using it for a couple of years.
I don't use it. Tried it, but not all my cameras have it. Thus, I'd have to distract my attention to photography with which camera am I using.

Very interesting. I had not tried that before. Most of the time I shoot landscapes, macros, close-ups (flowers), and other stationary subjects. But...
... I do sometimes photograph animals (pets mostly). I do like birds and have been a "birder" but I don't really have the lens(es) for wildlife photography.
And I do try to photograph auto racing, i.e. drag racing. I should try BBF for that as that should help a lot trying to photograph cars moving through my
frame at up to 330 mph! Also it can help with dogs running around as well. Just BBF on the place where the car will be and be ready. Of course that was
sort of how I'd manually focus instead. I do MF a lot because I either don't need AF or I'm using one of my many vintage lenses. But this BBF just gives
me one more tool. Thanks for posting.
p.s. BBF should be good for horse racing photography as well. I'll have to try that again once I get a longer AF lens.

Right. It must all or none.
I use it exclusively because I can fine tune the focus manually with ease!
On a Sony we have DMF an auto focus with manual override so to speak. I have the auto part assigned as BBF.works super.

That's called Trap focusing...and yes, BBF is excellent for it.

Can you provide more detail on this setup? I have a Sony a6000 and a6300 and would like to try it.
Thanks,

I'm either photographing landscapes or naked women. BBF doesn't do anything for me.
