Using Microsoft One Drive Cloud Storage

I am trying to use Microsoft OneDrive to store 37,000 pictures in their cloud. They have a deal where you can get Microsoft office and 1TB of Cloud storage for $6.99 per month. I use Lightroom 5.7 for keeping track of my pictures. Has anyone used OneDrive and how do you get your pictures to sync without disturbing your files so Lightroom can still find them?

There is, on Windows 10 systems, a OneDrive folder, and with some Googling, there is a One Drive synch utility. There is apparently a white cloud icon on your task bar that lets you know status. I use Dropbox, so I moved my pictures, while in Lightroom to the C:\Dropbox folder where it synchs automatically.

This tells you how to select folders to synch with One Drive:

I have "only" Win8.1, but even in that O/S, SkyDrive / OneDrive access is integrated into the O/S such that the application doesn't know where the data is coming from /going to. Until I ran very low on space on my free OneDrive account {they precipitously lowered the limit one day} I was keeping work on OneDrive and accessing it via gimp just as I would something on my C: drive or on some networked drive.

6.99 for one year or forever?

I'm not sure I trust them as a back up.
They reduced the free storage from 15g to 5g recently.

I am a Mac user and tried OneDrive for a short time; it does not play well with Mac systems. I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, and it just wouldn't keep the two in sync. This has also been reported by a lot of other Apple users, so be cautious if you're a Mac user. I haven't tried it on Windows, but have heard of "spotty" performance on that platform, also. I am now using Google Drive instead, which I tested for about a month before I took the plunge, and it's working flawlessly.

Yes, as I noted above, I was using roughly 5.1g, mostly as primary storage, when that happened.
They did not arbitrarily remove any of my material, but told me I wouldn't be able to add more if I happened to be over the limit, and they gave me more than enough time, so I simply went back to my computer as primary storage and removed enough stuff from OneDrive that I could put more in if I wanted to.

Just curious, am I missing something or do you have MS stock in your portfolio?
Why would anyone pay MS $7 a month when you can buy a 1TB external HD for $60. The rent on your own property isn't going to go down, and I feel safe in assuring you that big brother will be flying through your "cloud".

I use Amazon cloud storage, $12.00 a year unlimited photo storage, so $6.99 a month doesnt sound like a good deal to me.

Some great points here re: the cost. Just as an side, if you're an Office 365 user, which I am, the 1TB of cloud storage comes with that. The 365 subscription is $99 per year for up to 5 devices.

You didn't reply to any one post, but I will respond for myself - obviously I cannot respond for the OP. I'm not sure which companies are currently in my various mutual funds; I can tell you that I am no lover of MS, and a moment ago I was over in another thread expressing concerns about Win 10. I will use whatever cloud space MS, or anyone else, will give me free. Cloud space is useful to me for various reasons, one being that it makes it easier for me to share images between various devices. I also have memory that I own. Oh, and I'm a lot more concerned about Google, MS, etc appropriating my information than I am about government guys.

But you can get 50gb for only $1.99/mo. That's what I did yesterday when they reduced the free 15gb to 5gb. Have been using OneDrive for over a year w/no problems and all my docs are saved there -- it acts just like another hard drive and files are still available on your PC as well.

rehess: Do you really believe that "the application" doesn't know where the info came from or goes to? Google, MS Uncle sam all one in the same if you ask me. I don't know who is running who, but if by some chance you are not aware that every keystroke is recorded and monitored by big brother, than just for testing purposes write something about a revolution or the American people actually taking the responsibility to reform this g'ment and see how fast the FBI is knocking, with a battering ram and tear gas, at your door. I probably should go underground for typing this. Not sending it, just typing it. And yes I should be ranting in a forum, but with another fixed election coming up, "we the people" need to informed and ready.

We're allowed to differ on this. This thread doesn't need a quick trip to the attic; I rode another thread there just a few days ago, and it wasn't a pretty trip.

I agree, it's a dead horse., but I just can't stand what's happening in this country. I will be gone soon enough, but my grandchildren will grow up as prisoners in their own back yard, and probably won't even know it. That's all folks. My starship is boarding, not waterboarding I hope.
