I have question about the electronic viewfinder on the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 and others with the electronic viewfinder.
I noticed that when I use my Alpha 300 in manual mode with studio flash, the live view shows a dark screen to show what my exposure will be without flash. It's not a big deal because the viewfinder is fine.
If I get the A77 or A65, is the viewfinder going to be dark when I set the shutter to sync speed in manual?
In the A65 if you go into the menu and change Live View Display to SETTING EFFECT OFF, I think you will find the the screen is not dark. Don't know about the A77 but I think there are a lot of similarities between the 2 cameras. Incidentally I had a 300 and if I remember correctly you can use the manual focus assist button to brighten the screen. Best of luck.
View is a selectable option.

Thanks for the info. I had been thinking of getting the A-580 but thinking about the A77. I would be a lot slower to give up the optical viewfinder except I keep hearing good things about the A77.
Sorry - I think I misled you over the alpha 300 - I don't think that does have a manual focus check. (I had a 500 too, and that definitely had it, and it definitely brightens the lcd). Double checked on my 65 and that certainly works in dark situations with Setting effects switched to off. Sorry for any confusion. Best of luck
Some people had an issue with low light and speed in the view finder. Firm ware upgrade came out last week. I could commit on speed and I had no issue with low light. I have noticed since upgrade I can brighten view finder if needed. One of the plus of the design. Probably more will see in the future with Sony
