Huge grass and timber fire on the edge of town

Fire erupted about 5:30, was totally out of control by 6:30, I took these about 7:30. To windy fire fire bombers but there were two helicopters assisting from the air. Many farms and rural homes threatened. Taken from about 15 miles away atop a sandstone cliff with a Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens on a Nikon D500 body, in VERY high winds and 101 degree temps.

Hills along the river on the SW side of Billings. The fire actually jumped the Yellowstone River and it's 300 feet across at that point, that's what 50 mph winds can do. 40% contained right now, at least one home lost along with several outbuildings and quite a bit of livestock, mostly cows, calves and horses.

Very good shots, MT Shooter, of a horrible thing! I just hate fire and what it does! Hope you're safe, and praying for those who lost much.

Thanks.
There is good in everything it seems. I sold 3 of these images to the newspaper this morning, and the pilot of the Chinook helicopter came in this afternoon and ordered a large print of that last shot above, cropped in a bit.

Devastating in so many ways. So much damage, such a loss... Hope you are not having to breath in all that smoke.

100% contained. Lost one home, one garage, and 8 farm buildings. No livestock loss totals in yet. Fires like this so close to a city are always scary. I see California is battling another big one right now.
