This case filled with lots of camera gear and camera were found in a stolen

Pictures were from the camera.

Facebook page says they have found the owners and the equipment has been returned to them.

Gee, it is really nice of you to return the camera, but shouldn't you give the car back too?

I'm sure the police have already done this but there should be a wealth of information about the gear's owner in that box including photos and fingerprints all over the place. Also as someone pointed out earlier, Leica may have info on file and well as any lenses the owner had bought new and registered. I can't imagine anyone with this equipment not registering it (unless, of course, they stole in the first place).

Did they think to check the license plate or serial number of the car?

Too easy.

Do you think it could be entrapment for what else is in the camera?

Just thinking, I thought the camera serial number was recorded to the owners of high end cameras?

I liked the story of the guy who robbed a bank.... passed the teller a note demanding the money... written on the back of one of his own deposit slips, which had his name, address and phone number printed on it!

D'OH!!!

Clearly, too many people rely on Homer Simpson as a life role model. :)

That is good because we need the comic relief of dumb crooks at times to lighten things up.

It's mine! It's mine! I recognize that dog anywhere! Only problem, I've never been to Oregon. Think they'll see through me?

I doubt it. Again they can't figure out this from the cars owner you could get the car and the camera.

Might have been the same dufus who got arrested in Klamath Falls, Oregon.. a few hundred miles from Medford. The guy got stopped by the K Falls police. The picture on the front page of the K Falls newspaper shows the perpetrator standing outside the car where he was pulled over. He was chugging the last of his can of beer while four officers had their guns drawn and trained on him.

This is the nature of criminals in Oregon, so anything is possible. You folks have made some auspicious guesses in this matter, but you can't foresee the ingenuity/creativity of Oregon criminals.

This is why I have a steel lockbox welded to the floor in the back of my POS Chevy Suburban, when I go shooting on the Oregon Coast, which is riddled with a significant population of Meth Heads. Can you say "Breaking Bad!"

They would not have needed to hire actors if they had filmed "Breaking Bad" near the Oregon Coast, or perhaps anywhere else in Oregon.
