Nikon Coolpix P 300 problem

My "pocket" camera is a P 300. Problem is it is power zoomed. If it is not used for a long while, or even if it travels around in my pocket for a time, it reaches the point it will not zoom--it is stuck. Is there a way to "lubricate" it or somehow cure this? I have found that if I run the lens in and out every few days it works with out a small twist.
