How does one best prepare and add/attach a caption for photos, without encroaching on the image, when sending from Lightroom or Photoshop.

You can save/rename your original file using the caption or title of your choice. Merely do a "save as" and include your choice as your new file name. That way when you send the file it will arrive with your new file name (i.e.caption).

Thank you DLM, I will give it a shot.

PS. I note your Nikon system. I switched from full frame Canon to Olympus micro 4/3 this last year and I have been greatly impressed with the system (using professional quality lenses) for use with my travel photography concentrating on scenic landscapes. Their cameras are highly complex and take some getting used to in order to use their remarkable range of capabilities.

Good luck w/your new system. Please post some photos that you have taken w/the Olympus. I guess I am a Nikon user through and through. I still have my Nikon 6006 film camera so when I transitioned to a DSLR, it seemed Nikon was the way to go. I have not been disappointed. I love the new Nikon 200-500mm lens. For the price, it cannot be beat. I mostly shoot wildlife so its focal length works well for me.

In the news biz, we put the individual file in photoshop and hit file, file info., and then description. In that area there's openings for title, description, keywords, and other things you may find useful. Renaming the whole set of photos from an event can easily be done in lightroom - paris1999-1 etc. etc.. Your copyright can be put in the file by using your camera or lightroom.

I use a free download program called Photo Scape. It puts beautiful fonts on the photo with drop shadow in various colors. You can make the caption or name as small as you need it to be, I prefer the lower right corner. When you're finished adding the graphic simply do a save as and give the edited version a different name thereby preserving the original. I've included an example. Good luck.

Some recent shots from my trip to Iceland all with Oly 4/3. Last shot with equivalent 14mm lens and the others with walk around zoom.
