many foreigners coming here speak little or no English. MY grandmother emigrated from Latvia with my mom and uncles and she spoke almost no English. My mom has a bit of an europeany accent, but my spoken word is fairly neutral, mixing a midwestern twang, a pinch of Jesey Shore, and a sweet California drawl with Hawaiian pidgin....

point is, it's hard for an adult to learn a second language... it's usually the second generation that adopts the language and culture and by the third generation, complete assimilation has been accomplished.
