how much

Question: Someone in the family will pay me to take photos of his multiple businesses. I think it will just be the outside of the buildings but I'm not sure yet. Personally, I'd rather charge a one-time fee than by the hour. Can anyone give me an idea of what to charge? I think he has about 5 different offices. Thanks

I know the buildings need lens correction. It's been done. I just couldn't find them so am posting these.

Maybe not "how much" but "how many" images does your friend want you to create - are we talkng 12 or 75 or 150? Will you be comfortable giving up your rights and all control regarding how and how often the images will be reproduced?

That would all depend on what size and how many prints he wants. Or does he want digital files for a business website?
BTW, I have a similar image of the Shaw Center, taken from entrance on the other side though. Small world!

Yes, I am willing to give up rights to them. I am on a site where White House Printing Co. is used as their printer. And they do excellent work. I can pick my prices and make money there. I'm not sure how many images yet. Should I just charge a one-time cost or base it on the amount of images? My guess is it wouldn't be over a dozen images but just don't know yet. Thanks

Erik, I would love to see your image from the other side. I think he wants to put them enlarged as prints on his business walls. It is a small world!

Erik, you might know my niece, Amanda Ratcliff. She is a pro photographer and lives in DS, also.

Ask and ye shall receive... I took this last February after a Mardi Gras parade. I have several that were taken of the downtown area after the crowds left on my Flickr page.
It always amazes me how much trash is generated during the parades.
As to how much to charge for prints, someone once told me that they charge 40 cents a square inch, plus the cost of matting/framing.
I don't believe that I've met your niece, but if she's a photog here in Denham, we probably know some of the same people.

Thank you! I hope that somebody can give you a more definitive answer to your original question. I don't sell much, when I do, it's mostly to friends for their homes.

Anne -
My answer may not have been clear. My suggestion was: 1) determine the approximate number of images you will be making. That will indirectly dictate the amount of time involved. 2) determine how the images will be used. That will indirectly determine what rights are involved in the request. 3) base your price on Steps #1 and #2. /Ralph

I generally work with an hourly rate between $60 and $90 per hour, adding an hour or so for scouting the site. I see you do some HDR; be careful, as some folks react negatively to grunge. (I'd put your next to last in this category, based on what it does to the sky.)
