I know my Speedlite 900's will work off camera with my on-camera flash serving as the remote signal, but you have to make sure there's nothing between you and the flash for it to activate. I need to get a remote that can be attached to the hot shoe and will activate the off-camera flash no matter where it is. I'm a wedding photographer and that can pose a problem at times with so many people milling about. Thanks for any suggestions. :D
SU-4 is a bad idea.
Look at the radio remotes with hot shoes.
I've been thinking of some cheap ones from Adorama, $30-$40 a unit, non adjustable exposure.

LOL I know a few hundred professional photographers who would laugh in your general direction. You get what you pay for. You buy K-Mart accessories your photos will suffer.
You prefer the line of sight non-digital only can be used with a work-around to plain optical slave expensive as a modern solution 20 year old SU4 to a PocketWizard or QFlash?

WHAT ONE WOULD YOU SUGGEST PLEASE?
You will learn that when some on here hear hoofbeats they think Zebras and not horses.
In the same way, you ask for advice and they will immediately send you to expensive items. When it comes to items like you need, check Ebay. Here is what I bought and it works fine:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310287376813You will need an umbrella (enclosed) and holder and even tripod if you don't have them to make the off camera softbox. Good luck.

If you consider thirty dollars a lot of money for a transmitter and receiver....well, lets just say...some people have done their homework.
That is what this unit from cowboy studio does. I have had mine for a couple of weeks now and bought two more receivers. You don't have to have line of sight and can actually hide them in something. Great fun and very practical.
I got mine for under $10 on ebay

I could be wrong, but I think you are talking about something different. Peanut slaves like you show in the photo are awesome, but do a completely different job that something that holds the external flash.

I have used several remotes. But if you want your off camera flash to work and fire when you wish. You can depend on Pocket Wizards. Distance speed and dependability. Pocket Wizards of course come in several versions the Plus II a pair $328 on Amazon, Multi Max, Mini TTi, Flex TT5. You can spend less, yep there are all kinds of knock offs, on eBay and the Internet.
If you shoot weddings there are no mulligans, no stop pause and rewind, Pocket Wizards will work,
Here is a link to their website
