I helped out a this husband and wife photo team to get some image of themselves. They built a studio behind their home and are doing pretty well with individual portraits, boudoir, and some weddings. They were going to do a family session by themselves, but I offered to help out a bit since truing to wrangle your kids, get ready yourself, do all the light adjustments, is just tough. We took the family images on her camera, but I did grab a few of the individual images myself. Here are a few.

Excellent work on all. The second shot of the lady is outstanding--captured her personality with a bit of sass. Love it!

Thanks- yeah, she is a cool gal and a very good photographer in her own right. Like most of us, she is seldom on the front side of the camera.

Cliff, these are all excellent. I always enjoy your post as I learn a lot from how you compose and lite the shots. Well done.

Hey Cliff,

How have you been? I like the second shot the most - seems to be more of a true portrait shot and the composition and lighting are excellent. Also, excellent separation from the background, and the background choice seems to be very fitting. Looks like a background light camera left was used, at least for part of it?

Very sharp eyes in all the shots! That really makes the images stand out, as always.

Question about the last one of the guy alone. How was it processed? I get the impression, by his face appearance and processing (very smooth, so to speak), he is almost a doll like figure. That is not a criticism, but an observation. He almost looks surreal to me. Can you offer any explanation, or perhaps what you had done in PP'ing to make him appear the way he does - at least in my eyes? Thanks Cliff.

Best Regards,
Tom

Hey Cliff, br br How have you been? I like the se... (show quote)

Tom - I did not do any retouching on his face, so I think it was the NIK Bleach Bypass that may have done that. That was used for a color version of this and I just converted that file to B&W.

I didn't even pay attention to who posted this thread, just opened it up. As soon as I saw the first image, I knew it had to be you. OUTSTANDING as always. I have NIK, but never mess with it. You really have me thinking that I need to look further into it.

I really like the effect on the "bleach bypass"

Cliff,

Thanks for the explanation. Now I have some closure. Great shots as usual my friend. I have a couple shots I'd like to upload, but can't since I don't have a release as of yet. I'm working on it though.

Best Regards,
Tom

Bleach Bypass is an interesting effect. You need to do a lot of work with the various sliders to get the look you want. Like many filters, it is all to easy to overdo it, but used at low levels and maybe just painted in on parts of an image, it can be useful.

Cliff, knock out killer images here !!! All are out of this world fantastic but #2 is the favorite. I'm not familiar with the NIK Bleach Bypass, can you elaborate a little more on the subject?
Thanks, Dave

Nice images Cliff and good tip with NIK Bleach Bypass. Although, I just tried it on a recent portrait and my version does not look good. Practice, practice, practice ....
