Blue Dasher Dragonfly via a Sony A77ii camera

Nikonian72 invited me to post this image here after seeing it in the Photo Gallery, thanks Douglass.
Sony A77ii (APS-C) camera at ISO 200, with Sigma 180mm macro lens, 1/250-sec at f/9. I always shoot on a tripod, I'm not stable enough to hand hold anymore. Manual focus and exposure. I generally adjust exposure by changing speedlight output and ISO (if needed).
Second image is my home-made speedlight bracket that I adapted to my tripod gimbal head. The arm swings 180-degrees from where it is in the photo to above the camera. The small ball head allows me to point the flash where needed. My home made focusing rail is mounted in this shot, but most of the time I don't use it.

Great Image and unique set up. How far was the front element of your 180 away from the Blue Dasher?

Thanks Stan, I think about 20 inches. Here is the full frame.

Excellent captures!
Not many Sony shooters on this forum. They should now be inspired.

Which speedlight are you using?
My only concern is your small(ish) softbox diffuser. Most of us have found that 6x8-inch softbox is the most efficient size to really diffuse light over a large surface, yet still remain manageable. Some use even larger softbox diffusers, but sacrifice motility.

Douglass, it is a Sony HVL-F43AM (guide # of 43) running though a couple of adapters since it has one of Sony's earlier hot shoes and the camera has their latest.
I agree about the diffuser, I have one that is 6 X 8 that I'm working on getting usable. It was left folded too long so it doesn't want to stay expanded. I've got it stuffed with soft material hoping it will reform. :)

Nice, I just bought an A77ll last night. I hadn't had the time to throw on the macro yet. It ought to be interesting.
