Hmmm.... Neck retracted. Was he sleeping or just resting, or did you feed him a bunch of fermented crawdads? Anyway, very nice shot with an unusual pose.
All the Blue Heron near us are skidish! I saw a different method of composing that might have been interesting called think big, take small. The picture would be mainly the lake and the heron would have been small down at the bottom. Just a thought.
