Can anyone tell me if it possible with picassa to make a photo that is the correct passport size?
And then explain to me how to do it
my husband was offered a fishing trip in Canada and I forgot to renew his passport, so now looking to do it quickly

If the photo meets the criteria (found at
http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/photos/photos.html), you may do so. However, others can provide much better guidance than I can.

Many drugstore chains do passport photos. Had mine done recently at Rite Aid. Took about 10 minutes and cost $9.00.
Some post offices offer a passport photo service, too. The Automobile Club does passport photos. Search online for passport photo services. Good luck.

I did mine and my wife passport photo myself but it's difficult to try to explain. The problem had to do with having the prints made at the store. If you are to make the print yourself that it's easier.
I checked out this link and it does sound complicated and if not right they won't accept it.
So will try on Monday to find a place to get it done.
thanks
thanks everyone
I will probably find a place to do it and have it done on Monday. The problem is we live out in the sticks and if our local court house doesn't do them it will be a 100 mile drive to a bigger town. Hopefully with some speedy delivery postage it will arrive back in time--my fault--learned a valuable lesson
I did a passport photo for my Dad with a Point and Shoot Canon Camera. Then I printed it using a Photoshop 14 using the 2" x 2" measurement in a Matte Photo Paper and it was accepted. It is not so complicated.

Maybe you got lucky. The passport photo has to meet an exacting standard.

The standard is quite strict but I knew cases when they did accept photos that didn't exactly met the standard.

I take all our passport photos (and my wife thanks me for it!).
Frame it so there is some room above the top of the head, about the middle of the chest and both shoulders are visible.
Also, make sure you take the picture of your subject against a plain white background.
I do some basic processing (brightness, contrast, sharpness, brighten the white background if necessary)
When I am satisfied with the results I e-mail the jpeg to Walmart where they crop it then print it to the correct size.
Here are some guidelines:

There is a free passport photo program at passportphotowizard.com that will step you through process.

With Picasa, you can both resize and crop.

But then you have to kind of do trial and error to make the size of the head correct. The passport tool on the passport web site (link has been posted above) easily guarantees the head size is correct.
