Lately I open PSE 12 and say 4 photos. it use to open all 4 and they would be at the top of the screen with the name of each one. Now every time I open 2 or more photos they all come up in their own window for no apparent reason that I can find. If I go to bottom of screen an click on Layout I can select default and they all appear at top of screen as before. But once I open more file in goes back to individual windows. I can't find in the preferences where I can select how to open each file as a default along the top of screen. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Hal

I opened PhotoShop and went to PhotoShop Elements > Preferences > General and made sure that the "allow floating documents in Expert Mode" was not clicked. If it's clicked, they can move all over the place.
I think now is when I should tell you to "Read Your Manual!" like some people do in this forum, but I don't have my panties in a twist enough to do that yet. Hope this helps.

At top of page click "windows" (between view and help) and look at first option: images. I see tile, cascade, float all in windows etc. I only have tile open, and I keep my photo bin (at bottom) collapsed from view.

Not sure if this is what you're experiencing.

Thanks so much Problem Solved! I had been getting Rick Peterson tips 1-20 five at a time and one
was to use floating windows so you could move them all around, I forgot to uncheck that when I
closed PSE 12 the last time I was in it. Your Right I should have Read the Manual-I downloaded a PDF of the manual I just never see on the desktop, will be finding it soon. Thanks Very Much!!

Thanks very much but Photeach hit the problem on the head. I had checked the box to have floating windows in Preferences/General- I had been getting Rick Peterson tips 1-20 and 1 of them was that-I never unchecked the box before leaving PSE 12 the last time I used it. But thanks for the tip I need help every now and then an UHH always comes through with just the right answer.
I will be finding that PDF of the manual ASAP! Thanks:)
