Binocular straps for birding and bird photographers

I just upgraded my binoculars to a much larger heavier pair and want to invest in a good strap. My old binocs had a good Optec strap that went around my neck but they were swinging around a lot and banged up against things often leaving the outsides of them looking less than new. I don't want the new binocs swinging around my neck so I was thinking about a harness. But my biggest concern is that my camera strap, a Black Rapid, will cause interference with the binocular harness strap or vise verse.

Any advise on which harness works well with binocs and if they will cause some interference with a Black Rapid sling strap?

Old binoculars Canon 10x30, new binoculars Canon 10x42 both with IS.

Check out Cabela's online catalog and you will find they sell a binocular harness that holds the binoculars to your chest to keep them from swinging around. My brother uses one and loves it.

This is my favorite as it is very versatile for single camera, bino, or both at the same time. The padded yoke allows caring heavy equipment quite a comfort compared to most others - check out the video explaining the different configurations.
I bought this so I could carry two Canon Rebel cameras- one with 18-55 and the other with 100-300 - a used body and this harness was far cheaper than a new multi range lens.

When I saw a fellow using one of these harness with a very large pair of binos I knew that was what I needed. I don't need to take it off while doing photography from the car when I use it with one camera - Canon T3i w/ 18-55.- it sits snug against my chest with plenty of room to drive.

Look at the Op/Tech Bino/Cam harness ( http://optechusa.com/straps/bino-cam-harness.html ). No weight is on you neck. I've never tried it with my Black Rapid. For 13 bucks, it may be worth a try.

Many times when out birding or nature viewing, you will be taking long walks, often in remote areas. So you might very will have a light backpack, possible with water in it like a camelbak. If you get one with D-rings on the shoulder straps near the top, you can sew up a couple of straps with closing hooks on each end. Adjustable length is nice. Then use the straps for holding the camera or binoculars. That take the load off the neck and helps balance the pack! I put split rings on my cameras and binoculars, and the normal straps have the hooks also, so I can select between them. Get good hooks so they won't release the camera accidentally. There is very little side to side swing of the camera.

You have cime up against an old, old problem ! I found that the only way with binos/ camera straps is NOT to mix both- invariably you will end up cursing. I carry my binos in a cargo pocket, with NO straps at all- end of problem.

I wrote OR. I don't recommend both binoculars and camera attached to backpack shoulder straps at the same time. By the way, normal Birder's binoculars won't fit easily in a pant's cargo pocket - too large, and so is the birder's D-SLR with telephoto lens.

My recommendation is to buy the op/tec single camera harness with the elastic straps - this will keep the binos at chest level and snug with NO swing - next thing is to replace the binos with a super zoom bridge camera for some real bird viewing and photo.
