I have a Sony A7R mk2. I am at a loss to understand the procedure used to download the Apps Sony offers. if someone has mastered the way I would appreciate a step by step description. If not, then does anyone know a U.S.A. phone number that will get me to a Sony Rep. Many thanks, Zing
I have only used the Sony A6000 for the Playmemories apps but I'd guess the procedure is the same. Go to
www.sony.net/pmca and you will find a button that will take you through the process. The part I found confusing is that you have to set up an account first. You have the option to leave your cc info on file ( I wouldn't) or put money in the 'bank' to cover the price of the apps you want to download. I think you have to have the account set up even if you only want the free apps.
First, set up a Sony account on their website with cc info.
Set up an access point for your home WiFi network on the camera. Third menu icon, second page, second item. If you're only going to use this network you'll only have to do it once.
Select play memories camera apps in the app menu (4th menu icon), and log into network.
Download app.
Make sure you have a battery with a good charge. Use care typing in user ID and password.
Good luck.
I don't use any of the apps. It only slows down the camera and eats up the battery, especially WiFi. Do it in post and transfer your photos buy removing the card from from the camera. IMHO most of these apps are a waste of time.
PM me and I will give my phone and we can talk.
I have downloaded the free apps, but have not used them. It is a painless process to download apps.

Quite a few people have already given you the "process"; however, I'll add a note or two:
- If you have multiple compatible Sony cameras you can download paid Apps to all cameras for a single price. I have the Sony A7S, A7R, A7 II and A7R II with the same Apps on all of them.
- There are also iOS and Android apps that work with the Camera Apps; WiFi live viewing and camera control on a mobile device is great!
- If you using an App, be sure to shut it down prior to turning off the camera or it will start running again when you turn the camera back on; can be confusing...
- Once you get used to using the Apps they'll "grab" you. I use and like quite a few of them.
