New camera, old lens mismatch.

I just took delivery(last month) of my newest digital camera. I bought from B&H, another Pentax body. Pretty nifty, really, and it's my only full-frame camera, to date. It to, has in-body shake reduction, that to me is a worth-while feature to have. I had previously bought a nice Sigma 24-70mm lens that I used on all three of my image- stabilized Pentax bodies. The problem arises with the new K-1 body, this particular lens model has a problem in marrying to the K-1body, without it scratching the finish on the body near the lens mount.. Sigma Corp has stepped up to the problem and will repair said ailment, Just mail in the lens. I just returned from my local Brown-truck franchise, the lens is on it's way to fixed. I was thinking that maybe I would do better to sell the lens and replace it with the PENTAX version, but that FF lens is quite pricey, and may not be worth the difference. So, I'm staying with my good, stabilized, walk-around, lens. Just saying, for your information, if any of you are in the same boat. RJM

Crop sensor designed lenses do not work on a full frame body.

But a full frame designed lens will work on a crop sensor body.

You will need to obtain full frame designed lenses for your new full frame camera, that can also be used on your crop sensor bodies.

Some of the older 3rd party lenses had the apature adjustment directly next to the body connection. I kept scratching and mentally cussing out the poor design of the lens. One was Sigma. They quickly redesigned the series of lenses with that problem so it wouldn't do that.

You mentioned Sigma being willing to help with your problem too. That is great. That tells me they are a very good company and want to provide the best. (I didn't origionally mean this to sound like a commercial but it kind of ended up that way.) LoL

*I envy your be purchase! Should you have more proplems like that, call me. I'm not to proud to dumpster dive for that camera! LoL

Actually, crop sensor lenses most certainly can be used on the K-1. It has a built-in selectable crop mode. In addition, many of the Pentax DA lenses (designed for their crop sensor DSLRs) actually do cover the FF sensor with little or no vignetting other than at wide open apertures.

You are might on the money about the crop lenses. I use Pentax 6x7 lenses on my crop camera's with an adapter. Pentax say's all Pentax lenses will work on the K-1, but some need an adapter.

The Pentax K-1 full frame 36 megapixels, is under contract in having some of their lenses made by Tamron, I have been told. You may want to check this out for sure. I heard it on this forum.
