Very nice!

Thanks, Judy.
You are the third person now that has said it is a bird swallow, so I'm assured now that my identification is correct.

I took a few pictures of a tree swallow a couple weeks ago.

If you want, you can add a couple to this thread so I can see them.
Oops. I see you already did. Very nice picture.

Sure is. I just discovered how beautiful they were last year when I got my first picture of one. Nice job.

Thanks. I appreciate that.
Lately, I've been seeing them swooping down almost touching the water of the pond and then back up. When they are way low and the sun hits their backs, it is the most beautiful blue.

I was watching them yesterday and they were at the mud flapping their wings. I thought maybe they were getting a beak full of mud and go back and build their nests.

I don't know what happened but end of last month there were tons of swallows at the bird refuge with their mud nests. But the last two times I went they weren't there like before. Odd.

Maybe they were migrating through the area a month ago. And now are only the ones that stayed in the area.

Yes.

The swallows you saw gathering mud were probably not these. They may have been drinking from the water. Tree swallows are hole nesters. There are other species who construct nest from mud collected.

What a gorgeous bird.

Yep, Tree Swallow. And boy were you ever lucky cause they are one hard bird to catch. Always swooping. Good catch.
