Thanks to all of you who helped me thru process of switching from my dying desktop to my husband's Laptop. Everything is set up and working. The last bit of the puzzle is can I keep the Laptop plugged into AC Power and remove the battery? If I can run it off AC power then can I leave it turned on so that I can access the printer/fax/scanner/phone from my other laptop that I use all the time? If I leave it plugged in to AC power and on all the time will it harm the laptop? It is basically going to be used as a desktop computer now.
TIA

i have a laptop also, when i want to turn off the laptop, i use the sleep mode, lift the lid and it's ready too go, it wont hurt your computer, every once in a while shut it down, i usely go about 2 weeks, that way it wont hurt the battery...
Leaving the battery in all the time while it's plugged in won't hurt it or the computer. Today's batteries are much more technologically advanced than they used to be. My laptop is almost always plugged in, except when I'm on an airplane, or when I just can't find an outlet anywhere. :)

Good question. When I was living in a trailer at a campground one summer, I plugged in the trailer, although there was no battery. I found out the hard way that it's not a good idea. I had to replace the converter/charger - $$$.
Looking online, it seems that you can operate the laptop without a battery.

Thank you all for your help. I think for now I will just leave plugged into AC power with battery in it and leave it turned on. Since its being used as a desktop replacement computer and not going anywhere. I have 2 other laptops for primary use and travel. Main concern for leaving it turned on is the availability for printing from my other 2 laptops via WIFI.

If you have reliable AC power it is better to take out the battery. Better technology or not, they don't like being on charge all the time. There is no reason to leave the battery in unless you sometimes take it off AC to move it or whatever. If you do leave the battery in, it is good to cycle every month or so--let it get down to around 10% and then plug the AC back in.
My daily use computer is a 2012 MacBook Air. I almost always use it plugged in. When I forget my power cube, or just run it "freehand," it lasts me all day.
The battery is NOT user removable/replaceable.
