The f/stop is actually set to Auto when you lock it at f/32.
The camera controls the f/stop. So you are not shooting at f/32 all the time.

Royce, I've experience with neither the lens nor the camera. However, I do have a similar situation with one lens I use, 28~85. The lens is a completely manual lens. It requires the lens f-stop ring to be locked at f/32. If the lens is set to any other f-stop it produces an error message in the camera. With the f-stop ring locked at f/32, the f-stop control knob on the front of the camera allows me to set the f-stop the lens will use during exposure, also the preview button will stop the lens down to the f-stop selected. I have the same camera and a few lenses with this same problem. My problem with the camera controlling the aperature is that when I look down the barrel of the lens, even when it's set wide open in the camera, the lens is still almost closed completely off (looks like f 32 to me)
