Turning off Color Management

I have posted a question in the Printers and Color Printing forum asking how to turn off color management in my Canon PRO-100 printer. I'm posting a link to my question here only because that forum is one of the "extra" forums that don't show up by default in the forums list and I suspect a lot of Canon PRO-100 owners might not otherwise see my question (that forum has relatively light activity). If you are a Canon PRO-100 owner and LR user and can answer, please do so at in the forum linked to here:

Why? I took a class at a local camera show, covering Lightroom Black and White conversions. The instructor stressed that you always, in Photoshop or Lightroom, let the printer manage colors. Anyway, to answer your question, in the Print module, scroll down on the right to the Print Job menu and you'll find it under color management.

So I gather then that just by selecting a custom profile in LR that essentially turns off color management by the printer?

I have a Canon Pro-100, do all my printing in Windows Photo Viewer, and have yet to see a need to turn color management off.

If you are using a Mac then color management is turned off automatically if you select an ICC profile in the print module.

For a Windows machine go into the printer driver and select Matching->None.

I also have a cannon printer and switch to the icc profile for the paper I am using and that will turn off color management.

I do not know the specific's of your printer, but I suspect that that command would be in the printers dialog box as it is with Epson printers.

I appreciate the thought, but that link describes using Windows 10. I'm using an iMac and don't see the "Properties" button described.

You have a specific concern but it points to a general one.

Printing a photograph for best results requires color management. From what I understand, CM starts with the printer paper profile. When printing, the user selects this profile for the computer software and the printer to produce the print. This is called hand-holding.

You can find printer paper profiles for downloading on the Web-site for the manufacturer of the paper.

But, yes, you have to switch off the default printer CM for this hand-holding to work.

Another route involves developing a custom printer profile for each paper. For a price, an expert can do this profile for you. I've never done it because using the printer paper profile as described above has given me acceptable results.

I hope this reply helps.

Good luck.

Ok, thanks. That is the answer then. I am selecting an ICC profile and I am using a Mac so then I can ignore the warning message LR gives me about turning off color management in the printer.

Maybe, but make sure you have turned off printer color management.
