For those that gave all and their loved ones-THANK YOU.

Duty, Honor, Country.

From the Patriot Post.

On 12 May 1962, Gen. Douglas MacArthur addressed the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy, delivering his farewell speech, "Duty, Honor and Country." He described the legions of uniformed American Patriots as follows: "Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man at arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures -- not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless."

In his essay "The Contest In America," 19th-century libertarian philosopher John Stuart Mill wrote, "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." --John 15:12-14

Thank you Michael and enjoy your day.

To take from a quote by General George S. Patton: "Thank God such men lived".

Why isn't this posted in Chit Chat? If you are using it to evoke some kind of controversial, negative response from your adversaries shame on you. Our family has service members deployed and does not like their duty honor and service being used. Maybe you can get it moved, there is life other than the Attic which should have been named the cellar!

My goodness Idaho, Spud, or whatever you go by these days you are into the booze quite early today aren't you? Or did you just never stop and are continuing a drunken stupor from yesterday? I guess long holiday weekends can promote such.

I am not sure where a post honoring our fallen should go on this forum. I thought about that and honestly when I think of our fallen, "chit chat" is not what really comes to mind. So if you know better than anyone feel free to ask the admin to move it. Maybe admin has a better idea for placement of the post. I do know that in the past they have been forth coming with suggestions for my posts.

If you think someone would be so vile to use our fallen heroes as a prop for controversy then your mind and your thinking go to places that I do not want to think about. Your sick assertion regarding that could not be farther from the truth.

I well know that there would be detractors and people that may even make disparaging remarks regarding what I think is a very heartfelt and honorable post-no matter which section it ends up in. The usual suspects, and I believe I took steps to prevent those usual suspects from commenting, although I may not have blocked all of them. I guess we will see. But you did not think about that did you?

By the way spud, did you think it a good post? Or did you lose sight of that and the meaning of this sacred day in what appears to be your drunken stupor?

Spud, I have dignified your hateful post more than I should have and there will be no further comment from me regardless of where the post ends up.

I hope you and yours have a good Memorial Day and at some point remember the real meaning of this day.

I thought the one I posted on CC was better. No booze, heading out for a quick 15 mile bike ride before some gardening. You really are full of yourself aren't you?

It's not a competition, it's a day to honor the fallen. Good posts both of you. Lest We Forget.

I get it, thanks and I stand corrected! No time to be petty and I was.
