I tried to stack these in DSS and of course it wouldn't GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
So I read up on stacking within Photoshop and it did a really nice job.
Then I moved to Lightroom for the final processing because that's the program I'm most familiar with.
The first shot is the final stack in PS.
The second shot is a single frame processed in LR.
The third shot is the stacked image processed in LR with the same settings.
I think it's amazing how much more information is included in a stacked image.
Images shot with Meade 8" SCT Scope 2000mm, Nikon D800E, 90 sec, ISO 800.

On my screen (ipad) the sky seems just a little greenish. Otherwise a really great shot, with good detail. Orion is a difficult target, and you did a good job with it!

Thank you very much David.
Here is another rendition of it with the Blacks reduced in Lightroom.
That's as much of the background I could get blacker without loosing the Nebula.
I guess it's about what's beholding to the eye because the are 100 different combinations
of colors in a Google search.

Looks very nice, a nice free plugin for Photoshop is HLVG or haste la vista green,
Works pretty well at balancing the histogram without a lot of the green. Here's the site I found it on,

Is this an older series you're just getting around to working? Orion is below my horizon here thirty minutes prior to sunset....

Which DSS are you using that doesn't work? I know for my Sony arw-files I had to get the 3.3.4 in order for the program to work.

The topaz filtering is a A+ on this one!!!!!

Thank you Scott, I love the Topaz Apps.
Yes it is an old set from Jan that DSS wouldn't Stack.
So I decided now to run it through Photoshop, it worked.
And I'm working with the newest DSS 3.3.4.
Sometimes it says I can only stack 1 file out of 10.

One thing I would like to point out, there is quite a bit of green in the whole Orion region, due to the high amount of OII in the region. Normally in astro images green is something we try to get rid of, but for the sake of accuracy the green is actually in the DSO.

Orion is one of the few Emission Nebulae that has OII at such concentrations that it is visable, usually it is found in Planetary Nebulae, where a star has converted its Ha and He into OII and C before going nova.
