Found a group of four or five of these at Barr Lake State Park. At first I was misidentifying them as Western Kingbirds but no yellow breast and a dark head and back pushed me to the Eastern variety. Am I right?

I'm not a birder, but your images are wonderful!

These are very nice! The Eastern var range well into your area (white tail tip) but the second image shows a yellow breast on my monitor. Nice post.

The yellow on the second one threw me a bit too but the head and tail markings make me think it's the Eastern variety as well. Could be wrong. Happened before.

Phil,

The only other one that comes close is the Thick-billed Kingbird which is a bit out of range but looks a lot like this one. Problem is the TBK is supposed to have a brown tail and this one has a white border. Range doesn't typically reach Colorado either so probably not. Still a mystery to me.

Bill de also posted some Eastern Kingbird shots http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-392858-1.html. A Thick-billed Kingbird would be a find! Thanks for bringing me back to these fine shots.
