I saw in Dans' Moths post that you loved spiders Linda, so here are a couple for you...

I am honored and delighted, Erik! This is such a super shot with the color and light and perspective. Is that her suitor in the background?
I used to watch all those nature shows on tv and remember one time
in my own backyard seeing a huge orb weaver being courted by the tiny male. He plucked the strings of the web to make just the "right" vibrations - as I'd seen explained on tv! - and thereafter I was fascinated.
Then in the late 1980's I volunteered at the National Zoo's invertebrate exhibit where we had a large display of orb weavers in a corner. There was no glass between that spot and the viewing public, and it was always fun to watch visitors discover that
To feed them we used a tuning fork to make the vibrations and held live crickets to the web with long tweezers.
So thanks for fun memories and a really terrific photo!

Linda, what a great story!
I'm glad that you liked the shot and that it brought back some fond memories (isn't that what it's all about?).
Interesting story behind this shot. First, I was walking a path in the bayou and there were Orbweavers everywhere! They like to string thier webs across the paths, so you really have to watch where you're going. I nearly got this one in the face and only saw her at the last second. Anyway, this was one of my favorite shots of the day and I didn't even notice that she was missing a leg until I was processing the shot the next day.

Beautiful shot!! Sharp, crisp color against soft blurriness.
