I have had the VC version for a year. It is great for portrait work and indoor venues like concerts if you have the body for some higher ISO settings (1600+). I've used it at sporting events on one body and the 100-400mm on another to help cover the field. As someone said, it is not quite Canon L glass but it comes pretty darn close.

Good to know Steve. I'll be using on a Df, so I'm not too worried about pushing the ISO up.

I have this lens and use it on my D610. The lens is very sharp. The motor may be a bit slower than a similar Nikon lens but I like it a lot and it will be in my camera bag for quite a long time.

Thanks for the input Paul. I should have mine in on Friday.

I own the A009 version of this lens and it is tack sharp and built like a tank. It is the main lens that I use on a daily basis. It will not disappoint. Best to you.

Thanks Doc, I love to hear the words tack sharp!!

Hey folks, I'm considering getting this lens (TAMRON 70-200MM F/2.8 DI LD IF SP MACRO (A001)), mainly to shoot my sons' orchestral performances with. I've read some good reviews, but I'd like to get some feedback from people here that have used it in the real world.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Erik, I have been using the Tamron, 70-200mm F/2.8, for some time. The photo below was taken this last weekend, in an indoor arena. It is highly cropped and the lighting was poor. It does have imagine stabilization. I don't think I would use this lens without the stabilization. At least, not under these conditions.

Thank you Gambler, I will most likely be using this lens on either a mono- or tripod when in low light situations where hand holding will be a problem.

Jules, both shots were hand held at f/4, 1/250th, ISO 800.
