It’s starting to rain again today, so I stepped out front door to capture the effect of raindrops on the climates just starting to bloom.
Well, Gary, it's perfectly exposed, sharp throughout, and it's quite nicely composed with a diagonal created by the leaves and flower. So technically I would say it's perfect, but aesthetically I think it falls a little short. because every thing is sharp and vibrant, the viewer's eye does not really have a place to rest. Shallow DOF creates a very pleasing effect on shots like these .. blurring the background and showcasing the star of the show. One option with this one as taken would be to take down the luminosity and saturation in the green and lighten shadows a bit on the very dark areas. I would also take down the clarity of everything around the flower to make it stand out more. It might also make a nice b&w image. Those are my thoughts. Take what helps and discard the rest.

My goal is to continually improve. I don't mind hearing what's good, but the more critical comments are extremely valuable to me. Thank you so much.
I'm all for detail. Also like blurring of backgrounds but that is getting so common that the raindrops and details throughout the image make it "refreshing". Pun intended.

Wow, someone who generally agrees with me. Details are everything, including the background. If anything doesn’t help tell the story, it’s a distraction for me. I originally intended to include the raindrops on the adjacent foliage to help frame the subject. When I take flowers photographs at the poor man’s puritanical garden (Home Depot), I generally need to do a bit more post processing. Believe me; appreciate all of the comments, and especially criticism.
