I saved this plant from a dumpster several years ago. This morning (Sunday) I noticed some blooms on it. It has never been more than about 1 foot tall but it took a growing spell this spring and is now about 5' tall. I have looked at hundreds of pics on NC plants so I'm guessing this one is an exotic or non native plant. Anyone know the name?

Looks like maybe a 'hollyhock'? Would need better, larger pics of the blossoms and leaves to be sure. Looks like some my aunt had around the farm house when I was a kid. I can remember some stalks getting to be 3-5 foot tall.

Thank you Wahawk. I meant to click the download. This new forum layout is taking some getting used to for this old dog. I'll see if I can get another one.

Thank you Mollie. That's three for Hollyhock so it looks like it's confirmed. Hollyhock, it is.

Make it four. And that's one of my favorite colors of hh. My mom had them growing at the back door. Occasionally my dad would "accidentally" mow them down. It was the only thing they argued about.

And now make it five. My grandmother grew them in her flowerbed - lots of different colors and we used to pick the blossoms, turn them upside down and pretend they were little dolls.

With a bud stuck on the top for a head! Yes. We even mixed colors.

Reminds me of when I set out 10 trees sent to me from that tree society (can't remember the name) and my brother mowed them all down.

Thank you for adding your vote. This is the first year it ever bloomed.

Thank you Sue. Yes, it's a pretty plant and it was free too.
