Both shots are with Canon XTi, 100-400mm lens at f/5.6 at 400 mm. The first shows the ovoid distortion of a 20 second exposure. The moon rises fast! The second pic was at 1/125 sec.

The first one was pure luck. The moon rises so quickly that there's little time to review shots and then adjust, as you well know. I had plenty of time to get the second shot as it was one out of maybe fifty.

Thank you for the compliment. No, the river is the the Big Susitna about 25 miles north of Talkeetna, Alaska.
