Yongnuo just released a 50mm f/1.8 prime with Nikon mount.
On the outside it looks like a clone of the Nikon af-g version with the built-in focus motor.
The introductory price is a little over 80 bucks.
I have only crop frame cameras and already a 35mm prime so a 50mm lens is more of a "want than need" but I would spring for 80 bucks if the lens was half-way decent.
I have not seen anyone anywhere comment on or test an actual copy.
So the million dollar question is, has anyone taken the plunge, bought one of those gems and could give some insight if this lens is worth the whopping 80 bucks.
Thanks!!!
B&H Photo makes reference to a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 lens for Canon EF mounts for $49.95. Says "more coming soon". I found no reference in DPReview yet for a Yongnuo lens. It may be too early yet to obtain reviews.

Have you seen the reviews on the Canon version? I have a few Yongnuo products like flash triggers and stuff but no lenses. I generally like Yongnuo products but the 50mm lens, at least for the Canon, looks like s waste of money.

Youngnuo caused some upheaval with Canon when they came out with the 50mm1.8 lens, now they are doing it to Nikon. Would I buy either of them. No. But to each his own. I do own a Youngnuo speedlight which I like very much though.

Yes, I have seen those reviews.
Unfortunately the Yongnuo Nikon version looks completely different from their Canon version so I doubt the reviews are applicable.
I agree that a lens from the original manufacturer usually is preferable but I don't use the 50mm focal length enough on my DX cameras to justify spending close to $200.
I had the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 af-d and got rid of it because it did not autofocus on my D5200.
The Yongnuo has the autofocus motor built in and if this is a half-way decent lens I would spend the 80 bucks.
Also, at this price who cares if it gets scratched up or dies after 5 years.

I have the Nikon 35mm f1.8 and the Nikon 50mm f1.8 for my D5100. I use the 35mm as a walk around lens and the 50mm for portraits. I find that the 50mm is a little sharper and provides lots of bokeh. Both are sharper than the kit lenses and have a more substantial feel also.

I would just be concerned that the build quality and technology are basically the same as the Canon version but put in a Nikon compatible housing.

Again, for something that get's used 3-4 times a year and costs 80 bucks who cares if the built quality does not quite match a Zeiss.
Have you looked at the built quality of most of the Nikon kit lenses? This lens even has a metal mount and gold contacts!
