Upgrading my video projects due to demand. Need to purchase an external mic and video light (camera attach capable). Any ideas on type and brand?

This is the mic I use for interviews: Don't be fooled by the price, it's an excellent mic.

This is my shotgun, top mount of course which leaves no room for a light.

I rather recommend against a top mount light because when you're video is done, that's exactly what it looks like - a top mount light.
I recommend this kit... I own one and it's excellent. Again don't be fooled by the price... it's excellent.

Good luck.

I was looking for your shotgun recommentation, but both links are to the lavelier mic. I have three shotguns, a Sennheiser, a good Rode (Not that cheap $98 thing) and a Takstar. The Takstar at $28.99 is better than the cheap Rode VMGO (Which I tried but discarded) but not as good as the good Rode Videomic Pro at $230. (Of course they all go up from there. LOL) I keep the Takstar for when everything else is failing--cause it just works.

Sounds like OP is looking for high quality. Sennheiser has some excellent mics. Mine is an old dynamic. It is good but not a sensitive and flat as the better modern Sennheisers which need phantom power.

Give B&H a call. They have an audio room in their store with over 300 mikes for customers to try. The fellow that runs the room knows his mikes and no doubt would be happy to pair you up with what you need. Just so you know, none of their sales staff work on commission, so they won't push you towards a particular brand or price point.

Opps was that my bad? Sorry. Here's the shotgun I own. Shure's a great brand by the way. A little pricey but worth it.

Sorry, I have no experience with Rode. I chose Shure because I did a career in broadcasting and we always used this brand - it was the best out there at the time and mine is no less... an excellent shot gun. I could share a link of you like that illustrates what the Shure can do. Let me know. You can do it PM if you like. In the same piece I used my lav so you can hear it as well. Again let me know if you're interested. Jim
