Photo Shop / Lightroom question

Greetings all, I have a Sony A77ll. Sony provides an editing and storage package that I currently have installed on my PC/IPAD and cell phone. If I purchase Photo Shop / Light Room, will I have storage in two locations that may interfere with one another? Is it difficult to transfer my stored photo's in the Sony program to Photo Shop? Ant guidance is appreciated, thanks....

If you go with the LR/PS photographers package, you should abandon the Sony software since Lightroom is much more capable and versatile for digital photography. You can keep your existing folders, just point LR to the location and tell it to import. If your images are in Sony's ARW RAW format, tell LR to copy as DNG. If you work in JPG, tell LR to copy. Sit back and watch it happen.
The workflow is to select an image in LR, right click and select Edit in Photoshop. Once finished in PS, just save the file which will be shown in your LR Catalog as a PSD or TIFF file, depending on your preference settings.
THe crucial thing to remember is, LR is now your catalog/file viewer. If you copy/delect/move files outside of LR, then the catalog can get corrupted, which is not fun to fix.

Not so fast....you can keep both programs and should be ok
1. with LR, import using "add"; this will keep the files in the same place you have them now.
2. LR does not destructive edits; not sure about the sony one. But if you have RAW images, then the sony must also be doing non-destructive edits and puts its edited files in a output tiff file (I assume its tiff).
3. you are much better off doing all "post import" file location changes in LR

If you have never used it and depending upon what you plan to do... the Lightroom/Photoshop package might be way, way more than you need.
You might instead consider Photoshop Elements. It borrows on the most frequently used features of both LR and PS, presenting them in a single, much easier to use interface. It's sort of a "lite" version of both LR and PS.
Elements has built-in, user-selectable support. You can choose from Beginner, Intermediate and Expert interfaces.
LR and PS have no built-in support to speak of and are far more complicated... especially Photoshop. With them you should plan to buy some books, take some classes, take some online tutorials and spend a year or two learning to use them well.
Since it uses similar features, Elements is another way to learn the basics of LR and PS... which you can then upgrade to later, if you still feel the need to do so.
Previous answers are correct... in general these Adobe programs will not interfere with other image editing software you might use (in fact, there are a lot of "plug ins" available to work hand in hand with Elements, PS and LR).
If you let your Sony software or LR or Elements "auto import" and "auto adjust" your images, what's done in one won't be reflected in the other. But there are ways to update and maintain your reference catalogs, if you need to do so.

Lightroom seems like it might be a daunting learning experience at first, but with a little "study and practice" (dirty words) it will all fall into place and become second nature in no time.

I found this to be strange and I don't know what gives. A long time ago, I think I downloaded the Sony software when I got my A500. I already had photoshop C5 and lightroom 3.2 by this time. Anyway, I have upgraded Sony cameras a few times since then, never adding the newer Sony software. Here is where it gets weird; Lightroom and Photoshop never skips a beat, even when they don't have the software upgrade for the Sony cameras out yet. I could care less about the newest ACR version. I do my upload into lightroom as usual and everything works just fine. However, I found out on a different machine, that if I did not install the Sony software initially, my Adobe programs would not recognize my Sony equipment unless I did the latest ACR upgrade (if that particular model was included). Go figure.
