Currently I have been using LL4.4 and PS6.I will not be stuck into paying for a subscription and thinking about latching onto ON1 while on sale.
Wondering if it can do what PS does?
I recently purchased the Nikon D500 and even though I upgraded to latest raw converter 9.5.1 I can't open any raw files Adobe shows the D500 is supported?
On1 also claims new version coming out this fall will support.
I have been mostly a jpeg shooter.

What is wrong with staying with what you have? If necessary you can go the DNG route.

You can convert the raw to dng ( as Bob mentioned ) then use your current software.
If you do go to On1 ... be sure to check the computer requirements.

So what application is used to convert? Nx-2 only gives option to convert to jpg. or tiff.
If you read my entire post ,that is the whole problem Adobe dng will not open raw file to convert. Am I missing something here?
Are you trying to convert inside Lightroom? You have to use Adobe DNG Converter to create the DNG then import into Lightroom. If thats what you're trying to do, are you getting any error messages?

No, I don't believe On1 will do what Lr or PS do. I don't have the full suite of products, but I do have Perfect Effects 9, which is a free download. All of those effects, when you open them, you select from presets and adjust from there. I do like it for B&W conversion more than NIK.

Dennis,
At worst, you can open the file in NX2, leave it completely un-adjusted, save it as a .tif, then open the .tif file in ACR. You can then make your adjustments in ACR and PS.
I do this with negatives I scan.

Thought about saving to tiff can't remember if that would preserve all info as raw? Been awhile since I worked with this. Thanks

No, it cannot do everything that PS does. But those things that it does do, it does really well. I have both, and I use ON1 for certain effects.

I have OnOne, I have had it for a long time. I was a big fan of the PhotoFrames which they took out @ v5.5 and I was relentless in emails to them about their bad decision. Guess what, it is back as of 10.5. Love it, now I don't have to go through the issues of keeping their old software running. I have used some of the other features and I like it, Look Below.. Will you, who knows. I just paid for the 10.5 upgrade and the first release of the RAW editor. I am 'waiting' with a little excitement. I use Adobe Rwa and Bridge. I shoot nothing but RAW. Considering what you can do with a photo in RAW I find it hard to justify shooting in any other format. I turned off my JPG capture years ago. No need. Hope this helps.
I don't think it has a channel mixer.
