Great shot. Clear as a bell. Wonderful detail with a long lens.

Great timing for this shot! Also nice definition between subject and background. The only distraction is that tiny orange dot below the bill. It's probably a reflection in the water.

Oscar, was the heron actually vocalizing with this posture and behavior?
My guess, if it wasn't, and since you called it "Solent scream" is that it was practicing the thermoregulatory (cooling) technique of "gular flutter" in which the beak is held open and the floor of the oral cavity and pharynx are vibrated or "fluttered" to enhance surface cooling by evaporation of surface moisture.
Just a guess.

Very nice shot. Really nice and clear. Great look on the bird's face. I checked out the others on your site and agree with you this is the best of them.

Nice detail .. very clear and sharp. I find the shadow at the bottom of the birds body to be distracting. It looks like it's tummy sinks in and it looks awkward. I would opt for a tighter crop or more of the bird with the shadows adjusted on the white tummy.

I posted before that this was a great shot and it was deleted for not saying enough about it. So, I still think it is a great shot. Love the clarity, and the contrast of the bird against the water. You caught this at the perfect moment. I think he is saying "ah-h-h-h-h-
