Pond Spider

Found while rearranging the rocks in the pond I am installing. My wife was trying to corral him while I grabbed my camera and she doesn't even like looking at them in pics. This was the only shot I got before he got away were I couldn't chase him. I think I saw him later, he looked the same to me except he was no longer red but med. brown. Can they change colors?

I am thinking your spider resembles a woodlouse spider, Dysdera crocata. If so, they can vary in colour so you may have found a second one. I am notoriously bad at ID so don't take this as gospel. :)

Some flower-loving crab spiders(and a few others) can change colors. Otherwise, spiders usually darken as their skin tans after shedding, but don't change otherwise. Definitely a Dysdera (have 6 eyes - can't see on yours, but a 'she', not 'he'); 2nd spider could have been a gnaphosid (8 eyes), very common, which often have darker reddish legs and a silky abdomen, and live in the same places. You can usually see their spinnerets sticking out from under the rear of the abdomen. Nice, clear photo.
