Was trying out my new Nikon 200-500 at a harbor by my house and the GBH cooperated nicely. The background is a narrow slip of water between 2 harbors.... with the heron in the sun and the water in the shade.

Wow, the bird is fantastic and I like the black (water) background, but try burning down the footing or wall the bird is standing on. In any image, photo, drawing, or painting, your eye goes to the brightest part of the "picture". If that is important to the subject fine, but in this case it is distracting from an otherwise fantastic image capture. The area is not pure white but very bright grey so there is some detail in there (not needed anyway) but tone it down.

Thank you for your input. I have already "burned down" the wall significantly... was concerned it might start to look 'fake"... like, where do you see grey concrete in FL?... but agree, it does get your attention. It was early afternoon and not a cloud in the sky. The wall is very bleached from years in the FL sun. Thanks again!

Thank you and see you split your time between MI and FL - good move! :-)
Very nice indeed, I wish my local GBH's would be this cooperative.
Beautifully photographed - the light is everything!

Thank you! Wildlife photography is kinda like fishing... sometimes you catch them and sometimes you don't!... I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time!
