Problem with a6300

Based on the great results of my Sony a6000, I ordered a new a6300. It was out of stock--everywhere--but finally came about 12 days ago. I got the kit lens, intending to put that lens on the a6000 as a "carry in the car in case" camera.

I worked with the a6300, set it up carefully and shot a bunch of pictures. Very quickly I thought I had messed up the autofocus. Every picture was not really as sharp as the a6000. I set up some targets and shot with my other lenses. Then I shot a second batch with the A6000 with the cameras set up exactly the same. No doubt in my mind that the a6300 was simply not as sharp. Every indicator said it was in focus. The little green dot was lit; when I tried the focus aids, they all indicated the same.

Reluctantly, I called Cameta for return. They were great. They sent me a return label. Said that they would check it against another camera. If the results were the same, they would let me know so I could just get a refund and write this off. But if the second camera was better, they would give me the option of a refund or an exchange.

This was not my first purchase from Cameta. I've had three previous cameras from them. But this was my first return. Of course it isn't all resolved yet, but so far they remain on of my favorite vendors.

I will let the forum know the results. If the images had been sharp, this is a great camera. I'll be disappointed if it isn't. Maybe this is what I get for buying before a shakeout period is complete.

Cameta is a good company, so they will stand behind your purchase. I look forward to the result.

Sorry to here of your problems. I have the 6000 and got the 6300 a couple of weeks ago. I shot some food shots for my daughters cookbook last weekend. a7s and 6300. The kit lens 16 to 50 is OK with the 6300. Great for the price. I had no shots were due on contract. so I hand held (no tripod a little crazy) the 6300 shots with with the kit lens at high shutter speed. Natural light and one LED light. The photos were fine. I also used my great 55mm zeiss FF with the 6300 for author shots and was amazed what I saw on the computer. You might have got a lemon but the 6300 is a camera that I will use all the time. Google Tom Antos a6300 and he will show you what he does. Good luck. PS I did a lot of video. Surprise video great.

I own both the 6300 and the a7rII and never had an issue with sharpness. I really think you should consider getting another one and you will see a difference.

Yes. That's my hope. When I originally contacted Cameta, I proposed just a straight across exchange. However, they suggested this process. As he said, if after testing, it is the same then I would not want the new one either. I'm sure they will not be the same, but his reasoning made sense.

I'm pretty committed to the Sony a6300 as I've not read any review that didn't like it. And the a6000 has delivered some excellent images. (In fact I will be shooting the SF Bay area with the a6000.)

All my dealings with Cameta have been great. As good as Adorama or B&H.

I love Sony so much that I sold 20 years of Nikon gear and strictly Sony. The 6300 is blinding fast and so much fun to use. Gary Fong has a video availailable for the 6300 that is very in depth.
