As mentioned in General forum, I just picked up a new (refurb) Canon 6D form the Canon refurb store and had opportunity to set up the tripod on the back deck and get a few shots. There were not a lot of more colorful birds out this AM, but I did get a few shots of some sparrows. The lens was the 70-200 f4L at 200 mm and distance of about 6.5 feet. Aperture: 6.3, Shutter Speed 160-200, ISO 100. I used a Vello Wireless remote to shoot from inside the house. These are cropped some. I actually bought the 6D for landscapes but thought I'd try it out on some birds just for fun.
Hey, sparrows deserve portraits too!
And these are quite nice!

Thank you! We usually have thrashers, Pinion Jay and red-headed finches, but none of them wanted to pose for me LOL! Oh well, there will be other opportunities.

Good going. But if you have a light or speedlight for that distance use it, it will bring out the color on your subject matter. Thanks for posting

I do and almost did use it, but I had to use the hot shoe for the Vello RF remote. I might try just letting the Receiver dangle (it doesn't use the hotshot for power) and set the Speedlite on the camera.

Keep it up, I have had successful shoots of BIF and Hummers with my 6D.
Today I decided to try out the WiFi and the Canon App on my iPad Air. I set up the 6D on a Tripod, lowered to about 3 feet, and aimed it at a spot on a bird bath. I was using the Canon 70-200 f4 (non-IS). Once I had it set the way I wanted, I connected my iPad to the 6D via the 6D's wifi and then went to the kitchen table an had a cup of coffee while I waited for birds to land on the bath. Here are couple pictures of a Common House Finch that I took from the comfort of my kitchen table.
Nice first set with that fine piece of equipment

Thanks Frodo. I really like this WiFi and ability to control the camera with my iPad.
Day two with new 6D. The wife and I drove to the top of Sandia Crest, overlooking Albuquerque, right after a storm passed. I wanted to try my hand at some HRD with RAW in Lightroom. These are my first attempt at HDR in Lightroom, so be gentle.
