Hello All.
I've recently had a serious problem with CR2 (RAW) files from my Canon 5D Mark II. Take a look at the images attached.
I've troubleshot everything I can think of.
. Checked computer - not an issue with graphics card.
. Used new, formatted 16GB SanDisk card
. Downloaded directly from 5DMII
. Reinstalled the software (CS6 Photoshop)
. Updated the software plug-in for Photoshop CS6
. Reinstalled firmware for the camera
Now, this is happening quite often. It started out only a few here and there, and now it's quite frequent.
Any suggestions? Anyone had this problem before?
In a jam as I can't put my camera in the shop. Only alternative is to use my Olympus E500 and even though it's a great camera, it's still not the camera the Canon is.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Is it raw files only, or do you see the same results with JPegs? Have you tried processing the raw file with something other than Photoshop, perhaps Canon's DPP (free)? Those 2 alternatives might help you isolate the issue.
Hi Trix.
It's only with RAW files. And perhaps I should try another processing software. I will give that a try.
Thanks.

You can download Canon's Digital Photo Professional version 4.x from Canon's European site. You'll need the S/N from the bottom of your camera (including the leading zeros), but it's free and a really nice limited parametric editor for Canon raw files even if you have PS.
It's time to call Canon and probably time for a repair. Looks like a sensor problem to me.
Hi Trix.
I have DPP. Tried it with the images in question. Still the "interference" type colors and mess.
It has to be in the camera. Writing to the card or something related to the camera. The RAW images still look the same when imported into DPP.
Dang! I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it to the shop. Now I can see $$ signs in the repairman's eyes. Oh well. What to do?
Thanks for your input and response.

I don't think you mentioned how you transfer, however if it's with a card reader I would try a different card reader.
Yeah, I think you're right. It's getting more frequent so something's on the outs.
Gotta be a write-to-card issue as I've downloaded directly from the camera, tried other card readers, and still this problem.

I tried different card readers and directly from the camera. Still it's like this.
Thanks for your response.
Did you try looking at the pins in the card slot of the camera?

These problems are very typical of memory card failures. Often you can get the card to come back to life by doing a full reformat IN THE COMPUTER, and then re-formatting the card in camera. Quality cards have a lifetime warranty and the manufacturer will replace them if that double format procedure does not correct the problem.

Had the same thing happen to me with my 5d Mkii. Tried different cards with same result I had bought a USB 3.0 card reader a few months ago for faster upload and it turned out to be the culprit. Went back to my old 2.0 reader and it read all the files even ones that appeared damaged. I did have to delete them from LightRoom so they would upload second go around.n Hope this helps.

Watching with interest. This is exactly what happens on my 7dii. Doesn't happen with the SD card, but happens more often than not on the larger card (CF?).
I use a card reader that I'm suspecting to be the issue.
Usually, when I pull the card out and re-insert it, the photos will be clear and as shot.

Happened to me too. Changed to the free Lightzone software. It handles most RAW files and converts to most any other format if required.

Send it in... It won't get better on its own. Be sure to include a printed letter to the technician, explaining what you said here, along with the samples you posted here. Sometimes it takes them a while to understand... You don't want to play ping-pong with a camera body in a brown truck.
