I wonder if I should move .....?

I have all but given up on skies for a few days. We have cloudy weather until Sunday night (that is iffy) Monday is forecast to be 10 percent cloudy and that is the best the extended weather folks give me for a two week period - as far as they go.

I wonder if I should move :)
--------------------------------------------
Now I have a question for you.

I am called from time to time from at modeling agency in New York - at most 4 times per year - to photograph models in the upstate of SC and Western NC. All they want is a headshot - no retouching - RAW file sent digitally. I did one of these shoots on Monday - when I called the model to set up the shoot....she said she would have a hard time making it to Spartanburg as she had a two year old child, lived in the country in Pauline SC (not too far) ...unless she could bring her son. That is not a problem - we have toys and stuff to use when we have children to photograph and a headshot just takes a few minutes so I told her no problem......then it hit me, COUNTRY - humm, clear skies and dark skies country. I ended up going to her place and WOW - a horse farm with a 3 acre front yard - no lights - and then I popped the question. Could I pitch a tent - setup a scope - and spend the night on a clear sky night - she said, "help yourself." I said - please make sure your husband is ok with it first, she went on to say that he was deployed and would not be back until June but wouldn't mind anyway.

They have 13 acres total - she took me on a tour of their land - well off the highway and told me I could setup anywhere I thought would be best - she could move the horses if necessary.

I told her for this offer, I would offer my services at no charge for portfolio shots...and introduce her to the pro photogs in our area at our next Guild meeting.

So I took a few pictures of this celestial beauty on this cloudy day and landed a new spot to shoot 'up".

Hey all of this was done with a one shot color camera :)

So to my question - Should I pitch a tent in her front yard!?

With all the jokes that are possible set aside, I think that you have nailed this photograph. All the aspects of a really great photograph are exhibited. This photograph could and should be used for teaching photography. Focus, lighting, subject position, etc. are really good. Well done.

Well thank you! I was rather suspecting some innuendos which - I feel certain - will be soon shared!

I also cheated and used a softbox which you can easily see in the catchlights. That helps to nail lighting when outdoors.

I have to agree with Mr. Thomas, this is a very well executed portrait.
How does the area look on your light pollution map?
It would be great to have a spot like that to shoot from.
Good luck Ed.

You old Codger...
The barter system is alive and well.
And you may have made some new friends as well.

As for her Southern beauty and charm, I think you nailed it.
But I would expect nothing less from you. ;)

Speaking of charm, she would move the horses to accommodate your camping needs? What a lady!
I'm not sure I would camp in her front yard. I'd look for a spot further back, I think. But you be the judge.
In my experience with horses, I'd camp right with them.

The site is on HW 56 South of Pauline which is about as "dark" as I can find close to home.

Also, with a drop-chord I could have POWER. .....I probably have 100 yards when all are connected.

It is as dark as we have close to home - about 15 miles away

That is a really fine shot to start with Ed nicely done and a beautiful model.
I have nothing else to do so I thought I would tweak the shot a little.
I know the pros will do a lot more to it.

I would watch for inquisitive horses to get too close to the scope and perhaps bump it a bit. (Or a lot!). Horses that are used to being around people a lot aren't that shy.

If I can ever actually get retired, I have my favorite spot 10 miles away at Henry Coe State Park in Calif.

I go to Physical Training 3 times a week, do daily exercises and walks.
I putter around the house and garage then I need scheduled periods of sitting also.
Sitting around is the hard part.
