Nikon D750 vs D810

I want to purchase a full frame Nikon and am trying to decide between the D750 and D810. I own and use a D300S for my wildlife photography, and am looking for a full frame for landscape photography. I would be using a 16-35mm Nikon lens (mostly). I also own and use the Nikon 200-400 which is also a FF lens. I've read reviews on both, and they both seem to be good cameras. Does anyone have advice on either of these cameras?

how large do you want to print? do you want to use the camera body as strictly fx, or would you occasionally want to use it as a dx body?
if you want to print larger than 13 x 19, or occasionally want to use the camera as a dx camera for the extra reach, the d810 is the way to go with it's larger pixel numbers. but if you do not print larger than 8 x 10, and are willing to keep the camera you presently own as your dx camera, the d750 would be your best choice. the d810 uses two different cards, and is a bit slower in frames per second. the d750 is much less expensive and is a great camera.
in my opinion, I would choose the d750 for the frames per second, as I do not print large format prints and I have a d7200 for my dx needs. it all comes down to what your needs and preferences are. if you have the means to do so, I would suggest renting each camera for a few days and use your 200-400 lens on each camera to compare the photos before deciding which one to purchase.

They're both great cameras. I'm not a Nikon shooter but, unless the D810 has features that the D750 doesn't, for the $500.00 difference in price, I'd stick with the D750. Or, B&H is listing a refurbished D750 for $1749.95

how large do you want to print? do you want to us... (show quote)

The only error in your reply is the point about printing larger than 8x10 with the D300. I printed many 11x14 images from my old D2H with only 4MP and tons of 16x20 (and larger) with the 8year-old D3 at 12MP (same as the D300). I have a tough time seeing the difference between a 16x20 from the D3 and a 16x20 from the D800. From 3-4 feet away, the difference is invisible. That D300 does suffer from technological increases since 2007, but being able to print big is not one of them.

I have a D300 that I like a lot. I also have the 810 which I love. Going to Alaska and hope to get some great shots for printing. I know the 810 will be better for that. Not too familiar with the 750 though.

I have a D750, D800 and D810. It is only my opinion but I rate the D810 very high and if your pocket book can take the hit I think it's worth it. The D750 is very good and so is the D800.

I took some shots of Stone Henge last summer with My D610. Expanded my favourite shot to 12x16, superb result. If I were you, I would go for the D750, easier to handle than the 810 and better for sporty use.

Both camera's have Group Auto Focus, I use this feature on the center spot and have a keep rate of almost 98% on moving birds. I believe the D750 is a little faster. If you like wildlife photography consider the new D500, it would make your 200-400 a 300-600 and it has group auto focus and 10 frames per second. Just sayin, you said you like wildlife photography.

Long story short - I have both the 810 and 750. Had a 7100, gave it up as pre-order trade-in for the D500. Except for the articulating screen on the 750 I do not like it - it is the controls, which are so much different than the D70, D200, D300 and D3 that I "grew up" with that I do not like. Image wise - not being a "pixel peeper" (I use the term descriptively, not disrespectfully) my eyes cannot tell the difference.

I recently bought the 750, also have 7100, I love it and the 16-35 is very good, great really. I love the 750, easy to carry, I don't like the 1/4000 max shutter but can work with it, esp. like the highlight metering function, very handy. The tilting screen is really a good feature for me.

I never even considered the D800 series, but I love my D750. If I was given a D800, I'd put it on ebay and keep using my D750.

The best feature of the D750 for possible landscape photography is the tilting screen.

On the hand, you use the 200-400. People talk about printing large, but in reality how often is it done, if at all.

The 36mp is for cropping, extending the focal range of the lens. The telephoto lens become much more with out loss if image quality.

I wouldn't trade my D810 for a D750 even adding the difference in initial cost. Although I would enjoy the tilting screen.

I regularly print beyond the 13x9 limit put up by one poster using the D750 and a 16-35mm.
The only complaint I have is the small buffer. I would absolutely purchase a D750 again.
