I certainly agree with the sentiment of that statement.

A statement of fact. This is not an entitlement, this is our government protected investment in our future. The government doesn't put money in. We and our employers do.

The clowns in Washington think it is their money and they can't pay it back after "borrowing" it years ago.

General Chit-Chat is a good forum section for non-photographic discussions.

The direction this one might head could make it a candidate for "The Attic".

You're right, but I have posted similarly in Chit-Chat and Admin moved it to Gen Photo Disc. Others have had the same thing happen.

Maybe the OP could enlighten us.

Just for fun, get your most current SSI statement of all your wages and SSI withholdings since you started to work. Then find a good "retirement calculator" on the web and use an annual return of just 6%. Are you better off with the current system or would you be better off with a private retirement account?

Please help me. Could you make me aware of what I could have safely invested in that could have yielded just 6% for the past thirty plus years? I'm sure many others would like this info as well. Is it too late for young to climb aboard?

I am not a financial adviser and as such I am not close to being qualified to give an acceptable answer. Many sources on the Internet indicate an average return of 6.9% in the past 30 years in equities (stock market). I know this is an average of all stocks performance and individual results may not be the same. Could be better? Could be worse? I've been in a couple of mutual funds (mid risk) for the past 30 years and have an annual average yield of 8.1%. 2008-2009 was pretty ugly though. . . .
