Both well done images Erik. Number one wins for me with more impact, and is properly centered. Number two is not symmetric so doesn’t work as well.

Thank you Frank, I much prefer #1 as well.

I like #2. The upward angle of the walkway invites us in, only to be hindered (slowed down, if not stopped completely) by the gate. It's a different and more interesting visual experience. I tried a quick b&w conversion in a free Chromebook app, and like it even better :)

For me, both are compelling images -- like them a lot! Very appropriate for the "Traditional Street and Architectural Photography" section.

Thank you Linda, I liked that half of the gate was closed as well. and not just because the open half allowed me access :) At the lower end of the ramp there is another gate that was closed, and from there the walkway spiraled town to the river. Here's a shot taken from the lower gate, not very good, but it gives you an idea of what's down there. The whole pier is actually a river monitoring station. They measure river flow, flood level, etc as it flows past Baton Rouge.

Here ya go Linda, a quick trip through Silver Efex. I set the opacity at about 87% to leave just a touch of color on the ramp and added some accents to the lights because, well, why not?

I love it, Erik! Great ideas with your pp.

I meant to mention earlier: if the little centered lamp post in far distance was removed, the gate would show up even better :)
