When walking trails in the south, one needs to look right, left, UP and DOWN.

Oh my goodness! I'm not normally afraid of snakes, but if I'd seen this on MY walk, I'd run screaming!

Great photos. I hate snakes so that thing must be at least 500 feet long and weigh 3 tons.

LOL ... just about right, Dennis. I'm not a fan of snakes myself but somehow they fascinate me so if I'm at a safe distance then a photo shall be taken.

I guess I am the same way. When I go to a zoo the snake house is the first place I go as they fascinate me too. In the wild (I live in rattlesnake country) I am always looking out for snakes on the ground. If I am not startled by one up close and personal I am happy to take photos etc. A neighbor in Colorado has more rattlesnakes on his place and plays with them when he finds them near his house. Of course he has been bitten by rattlesnakes at least 3 times that I know of.

Good shooting to you,

Dennis

I saw the snake overhead right before I walked underneath the large branch which was about 2 ft from my head. People were casually walking underneath without a clue what was above them unless they saw me pointing my camera at the branch.

In the south they will definitely be in the trees. Was in a boat fishing years ago when we went under a limb and one fell in the boat. I couldn't get out of that boat fast enough which is about the stupidest thing I probably could have done.

Out of the boat with a snake into the river with gators. 😉

Thank you. Was taken with my Canon SX50. Don't remember the zoom I used but it wasn't too far from me.

I'm only afraid of two kinds of snakes: Live ones and dead ones.

The live ones are what get to me.

My 4 year old granddaughter lives on a river with her mom and dad (my son). She knows the difference between 'good' snakes and 'bad' snakes and tells me which it is whenever we see one. The good ones are left alone or relocated by my son and the bad ones meet their fate so that it's safe for my granddaughter to walk outside.
