A short distance out of Bluff, Utah is the Sand Island Petroglyph panel with with images from 300-3000 years old. This panel is easily accessible as it is only a few yards from the road. It looks to be around 100 yards long and has literally thousands of pecked images. The older the image the more faint it is. Unfortunately, there has been some vandalism so it is now protected by a cyclone fence.

Forgot to mention, Sand Island is on the San Juan River in Southeast Utah near the Arizona border. The San Juan River ultimately flows into Lake Powell.

Nice shots! I've been there also. Seems to me Petroglyph photography sometimes makes the petroglyphs look sharper and more distinct than seeing them at the site.

Very excellent captures, jederick! Looks like hyergliphics (sp?) on the walls!

Hi backroader. I think it is because we can see the detail up closer in the photos. Have always enjoyed photographing petroglyphs throughout the four corners area. This is one of the largest panels and almost as good as Newspaper Rock. A "written" record that no one is quite sure of all the intended meanings.
