I agree.
The camera companies have been playing to the "I gotta have the newest" mindset. It is my perception that most owners of cameras are more concerned with instant gratification than learning to uses what they have to the max.

Although I mostly use my T5i I still have and use my 1947 Speed Graphic Pacemaker, my Sinar F, and my Mamiya RB67.

With any one of the four cameras I can create excellent pictures.

Personal preference. I've had the Doppelbock…and I'd take several of the locally brewed IPAs any day. Hops grown locally and they actually have some flavor as opposed to the traveled, bottled stuff. Beer is not wine. It doesn't get better as it ages; it doesn't travel well.

I am not talking about imported. Andechs does not export. Other than one kiosk at Marienplatz in München, you have to visit the monastery to enjoy their Doppelbock. Andechs has been brewing the same since the year 1455.

Perhaps Canon and Nikon know that the world is going to end in a few weeks so why waste the research money. Or it could be when you get to the top of mountains you have seen the best forever. Seems if these companies don't have a new and better than you can't go forward anymore! Are humans ever satisfied?

this is direct from NCN (New Camera News)

In a rare joint statement, industry giants Canon and Nikon have announced that both companies will cease all camera development, effective immediately. At a hastily arranged press conference both Nikon and Canon stressed that they are not getting out of the camera business per se, but rather will continue with their existing product lines for the forseeable future "and quite possibly forever." When asked why the two companies were making such a radical decision, Canon said "Hey, listen, our current camera lineup is good enough. As a matter of fact, internal research has shown that our cameras are better and more capable than 99% of the people that own them. With data like this, the only logical thing to do is to stop improving our cameras until our owners become better photographers."

"That's so true!" Nikon interjected. "For years we have peddled this notion that the only thing keeping you from becoming a 'professional' photographer was access to the latest and greatest gear.'Buy this new Camera!', 'Buy this new lens!' we'd say in our advertising, 'and you'll take better photos immediately!' Great food photos. Great puppy photos. Great photos of perky young Japanese lady near a cherry blossom or by a water fountain or something quintessentially Japanese. But deep down inside we knew that you were just gong to be the same crappy photographer you've always been but with more megapixels." After reflecting for a moment, Nikon added, "It feels so good to say this. To finally get this off our prism."

"Right!" added Canon. 'I'm so glad that we are taking this moment to say, 'Hey owners of Canon and Nikon cameras, you're most likely a crappy photographer so we are just going to wait for you to stop talking about that damn rule of thirds, take a real photography class, and get a clue before we make better stuff. Otherwise we're just wasting our time.'"

"you feel good?," Nikon asked Canon.
"Wow. Better than i've felt in decades." Canon replied.
"you wanna go get a beer?"
"Sure."

p.s. just bought a leica monochrom.
happy april2nd
this is direct from NCN (New Camera News) br br I... (show quote)

Quite interesting, at the first game of the final four basketball game they did a low pan shot of the sidelines and their they were, all lined up along the sidelines, 50 cameras strong, all Nikons of course. What other camera maker has a history of fine products used by professionals around the world.
In a secret deal in 1959 Nikon made a sub division that was to produce cameras that were to compete against themselves. Long story short, 10 years later this lessor company was bought out and Canon was born. Stick that in your lens and look through it.

One of these days Cars will operate on their own and no one will have to have a driver license. In that case who is the driver?
