I ran FixIt and then Norton 360 full scan. Now the computer cannot find my home network or any internet signal. I was using wireless and tried connecting an ethernet cable to no avail. Did those programs destroy the wireless and ethernet cards, so that they will have to be replaced? I also tried restore to (several) previous times but got error messages that restore could not be completed. I liked the old (7-8 year old) laptop w'Windows Vista, as I was familiar with that version. I now have a new Pavillion desktop with Windows 10 and I absolutely HATE trying to navigate or find folders. It is also loaded with junk apps (facebook, twitter and others I never heard of and do not wish to use).

Go to control panel (from the start button). Pick "system" and then "device manager". Then go to "network adapters". Check each to make sure it's enabled, working properly and that the radio for the WIFI is turned on.
Hope that helps,
Chris
I to have an old Acer. It got to where it took a long time to boot, would not shut down, etc. Put Linux Mint on it, now it's fast and reliable.

Do you hear the hard drive spinning up? Did you migrate your data from this computer to the new one? There may be no workable OS available.

If he got a restore error message, then the OS is running. As I read the post, he's having internet/network connectivity problems...
Windows Vista loads O.K. but I get the message "no internet discovered". I was using the wireless connection before with no problem. That is gone. I connected an ethernet cable from the router modem to the desktop and got the same message. No network discovery. My other computers work fine with either wireless or ethernet connections. Did running FixIt and then Norton 360 fry the internet card? I ordered a replacement card and will try to replace it myself.

See my post above concerning going to control panel and checking your network devices. If you see nothing wrong, go to "Internet" in control panel, choose connections, and start the setup wizard which will guide you through the process of setting up Internet access. Good luck!
